      You could do it that way, but it is much quicker to do this:
      1) Find the part of a song/ Ringtone you want
      2) Hold down the CLR (clear) button on your phone until The record option appears.
      3) Record you desired music/sound
      4) Save it.
      5) Go to: Media>Music and Tones>My Sounds. Select the sound you previously recorded, and then hit send.
      6) Send the sound to yourself (Your cellphone number)
      7) When you receive the message, open it. select options> Save as ring tone. Go to your ring tones, and there you go!

I get my ringtones on Mobile17.com I remember Verizon said that we shouldn't get our ringtones there, but sometimes when I go to Get It Now search on my phone, they don't have the song I want or they don't play a certain part in the song that I want as a ringtone. So, I signed up for Mobile17. You can choose and upload a song you want and you can start it whereever you want and stop it as much as 40 seconds. So try it out. Hopefully this helped you. =)
